When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for hi=
m to swear by, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “=
I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” 15 And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promis=
ed.

16=
People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirm=
s what is said and puts an end to all argument.
 1=
Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of hi=
s purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed i=
t with an oath.
18 God did this so =
that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie,&=
nbsp;we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be gr=
eatly encouraged.
 19 We have this h=
ope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctua=
ry behind the curtain,
20 where our=
forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high pr=
iestforever, in the order of Melchizedek.

Fearless Promise

It =
was the promise that God made to Abraham (Genesis 12:2ff) that gave birth t=
o the nation Israel.  Abraham’s waiting and hoping is done in the cont=
ext of a promise given by God.  And your hope, in light of this text, =
is also enveloped in a promise given to you by our Savior.  Remember, =
when he walked the earth, Jesus promised one thing to us – the Holy Spirit =
(Luke 24:49).  Your hope is couched in that oath:  God promises n=
ever to leave nor forsake you, and God promises the Spirit to lead and guid=
e you into all truth.  It is this promise that gives hope its weight i=
n your life.

“In times li=
ke these, we need a Savior, In times like these, we need an anchor.  B=
e very sure, be very sure, your anchor holds and grips the solid rock.” &nb=
sp; Lord, anchor all my hopes in your promises to me, and give me patience =
and perseverence to expect their fulfillment.  In Jesus name, AMEN
God bless,
