Context for a Fearless Faith
This series of devotions are designed to strengthen your faith, so you can become fearless in its expressions and actions – for I believe the times require it. Paul has just told the church at Ephesus to “be strong in the Lord” (see vv. 6:10-17). Why? Because during times of tribulation, faith expression cannot survive when it is confused and sheltered. It had to be clear, strong and substantive for the body of Christ to overcome the growing persecution. Consider the source of our text. Paul himself was in chains, facing certain death, but he was not complaining to God about his Roman captivity. Paul instead tells his readers, Roman jailors and otherwise, about a mighty God! We begin moving to a fearless faith when we stop worrying about what God can give you, to clearly, strongly and trusting who God is - period - and living on that trust. It is the difference between telling God about your problems, and telling your problems about God!
We bless your name, O God, for a fresh Word today. As I meditate on my own faith, I pray that your shore me up on every leaning side, and teach me to grow stronger in You, in Jesus name, AMEN
