Walking to Change

Bowdoin & Geneva Community Walk - July 22d

This walk was conducted in the Bowdoin and Geneva area of Dorchester – one of the most violent areas of the city.  I’m walking with Fathers Ahern and Conway, who lead St. Peter Roman Catholic Church on Bowdoin.  It is the anchor church for the large Cape Verdean community in the neighborhood.  This walk was conducted in 103 degree weather, but we went because the kids were so enthusiastic about participating in the movement of change.  It was like a march – with placards and everything – but a key feature was in how the kids were pulling people into the walk, and stopping to talk to those along the way.  Best way to spend a hot summer…
