Fearless Sight

35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening.37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”  38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”  39 Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”  40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 ”What do you want me to do for you?”

“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.

42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”

Luke 18:35-42

To call someone “son of David” was to invite the wrath and punishment of the powers that be, because you were saying that person is the Messiah.  From our point of view, he was correct.  In that time period, however, it was a courageous act.  Or foolhardy, if we judge the crowd’s reaction.  Perhaps he knew some people who were healed by Jesus and he wanted the Master to do the same for him.  We live in a secular age – a time where its increasingly less acceptable to publicly confess a strong allegiance to Jesus.  But despite the pressure to conform, just remember:  Jesus desires us to transform.  In what ways can you confess your allegiance to Jesus today?

O God, we thank you for the courage of our confessions.  We praise you because we can declare you as our Savior and stand on the evidence of our faith.  Bless us as we remember the goodness, mercy and grace.  In Jesus name, AMEN

God bless,
