Fearless Anchoring

“Except the Lord build the house, they that work in it labor in vain…”
- Psalm 127:1

The picture above is with my friend Jim Wallis (taken with Rev. Adam and Sherrice Taylor after his ordination service), whom I’ve known personally for decades. His magazine, Sojourners, was a lifeline for me in college and seminary – it inspired me to build the personal daily devotional that I’ve maintained over the years. Not all the psalms were attributed to David, Psalm 127 is written by his son Solomon. The verse above reminds us that the life we build must be spiritually rooted. Anchor your day in the Spirit, and reflect on the Lord’s hand on your job or at school – in all of your work. The Lord is the “source of your strength and the strength of your life” as Richard Smallwood would say. God will bless what you build today…

Lord, guide my every thought, action, word and deed. Bless me as I represent You today. I pray that my efforts will give you Glory, in Jesus name, AMEN
