Fearless Hanging In There

21. For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know!”

Philippians 1:21-22

I took this picture of the Monterey, CA coast on one of my trips to help cities plagued with violence. I refer to them (and the memory) when I go through difficult times. Nice thought, especially as we anticipate the coming winter (!)

In a Roman jail, Paul was writing a thank-you note to a church that took care of him while incarcerated. Although the harshness of life is to bear fruit for the gospel’s sake, Paul still spoke about his physical challenges. He wrestled between his personal needs and the mission ahead. His conclusion? “For me to live is Christ…”. Some days can be worse than others, and today might be one of those days! Hang in there, ok? Keep your focus on the LORD, and live for him…

O Lord, bless each person that reads this devotion, and instill them with renewed vigor and energy when they need it. Help us to walk in your ways, and see the path you lay for us, in Jesus name, AMEN
