When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ”I am willing,” he said. ”Be clean!”Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.

Matthew 8:1-3

After Jesus taught the people (the famous “Sermon on the Mount”), the unclean man approached and asked the master if he was willing to heal him.  I’m not sure why he asked – maybe he thought Jesus may be too tired to heal, or lacked the courage to face a sometimes frightening disease, or be too busy to stop and heal, or perceive that the man’s sin made him undeserving of healing.  The leper found out, however, that there were no barriers on Jesus’s side – he was indeed willing and eager to do so (v.3).  Sometimes the things that block us from the Lord’s intervention are issues within us, instead of vice versa.  God is always willing to touch us – to speak into our lives and bring change.  Don’t be afraid to ask…

O God, remove from me the barriers that keep me from approaching You for healing and wholeness in my life.  Thank You for loving me more than I love myself.  Intervene in my life, in Jesus name,   AMEN…

God bless,

Rev. Jeffrey Brown
