we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off eve=
rything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run w=
ith perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 f=
ixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy se=
t before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the =

Today is=
the day, in 1955, that a young seamstress coming home from work refused to=
give up her seat for a white man.  Her action sparked a protest that galvanized a nation to judge itself ove=
r the treatment of all of her people.  This day ought to be one of ref=
lection on how far we have come, and where we must go.  And what do we=
do to get there?   Take a minute or two this morning and think on the=
se things.  I commend to you the scripture above.  Remember the c=
loud of witnesses, (the one that I mentioned and the ones in your family an=
d your personal life), remember who really got us there and who will keep u=
s moving (v. 2), and remember there’s a job to do, one that we must handle =
with perseverance, strength and full of hope…

 God of our weary years, God of our silen=
t tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way; 
Thou =
who has by Thy might Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the pat=
h, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, Our God, where we met=
Thee;
