Build Self-Esteem, not Conceit

Ever been around someone who is =
conceited?  Someone who has an overly exaggerated sense of themselves?=
A person who brags about their actions and accomplishments and regul=
arly drops names of people of note they know?   Ever sat on a chu=
rch committee or worked along side someone like that?  Paul is not&nbs=
p; speaking against healthy self-esteem here.  He is referring to the =
individual who would have a hard time with our verses this morning.  L=
iving in harmony with each other requires a sense of humility and character=
that puts your neighbor’s concerns above your own.  When we pray for =
others, or help one another  or just be present (v. 15), we find spiri=
tual fulfillment for our lives that strengthens our self-esteem.  In o=
ther words, you can love yourself, but not worship yourself (!)

O Lord, we thank You and rejoice in Yo=
ur name.  We bless you as we rise today, and as we go about our daily =
tasks.  Teach us to be more humble and to be more aware of the needs o=
f people around us.  Bless us to be more present, and to reach out to =
live more harmoniously with people we touch today, in Jesus name, AMEN

God bless,
