Fearless Overcoming

I spent last evening in the stre=
ets of the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston, MA, near the site of one of the=
worst homicide incidents in a decade.  Two years ago, four people wer=
e killed on Woolson St., including a 2 year-old.  Yesterday the verdic=
t came back from the trial of 2 men accused – not guilty.  Several of =
us spent the evening on the street, trying to maintain calm.  Many nei=
ghbors were appreciative of our presence, which we will continue through th=
e weekend. A small gesture, yes, but the action gives people  hope and=
courage.  In this last verse of Romans 12, we see both hope and coura=
ge.  Evil can be overcome – it is not omnipotent or all-dominant in ou=
r lives.  That’s the hope.  But we must participate in overcoming=
it.  It won’t happen while we sit idly by.  You have a powerful =
good inside you.  It is strong enough to defeat evil in your life.&nbs=
