Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from=
the roots. 21 And Peter, rememberi=

way.”

So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say =
to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea=
,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says =
will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask w=

isciples passed by a withered fig tree. The Master uses the occasion =
to teach about faith, but whose faith is he talking about? Go back to=
v. 11 which starts the sequence. Jesus was disturbed by what he saw =
in the temple, and the fig tree was a symbol of what he saw there. It=
s full, lush leaves gives the appearance of being fig-laden, but a closer e=
xamination reveals its barrenness. What is the “fruit” of a Christian=
life? Using the analogy, it is something you produce, rather than so=
mething you receive. Jesus stopped by the tree to enjoy what it yield=
ed. If the Lord came to examine the tree of your life, could he be sa=
tisfied with your fruit? How much of your time today will be spent on=
strengthening your faith (v. 23) and building a clear, “fruitful” pr=
ayer life (v. 25)?
nbsp; Help me to understand faith as You see it in your eyes, and teach me =
to pray in a clear, honest way that is pleasing in Your sight. Help m=
e to increase the fruit that I bear for thee, in Your name I pray, &nb=
sp; AMEN
