And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the tabl=
e, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. =
Then she broke the flask and poured iton His head.
4 But there were some who were indignant among themsel=
ves, and said, “Why was this fragrant oil wasted?
5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred de=
narii and given to the poor.” And they criticized her sharply.

6&=
nbsp; But Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She=
has done a good work for Me.
7&n=
bsp;For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you =
may do them good; but Me you do not have always.

She has done what she could. She has come befo=
rehand to anoint My body for burial.

Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached =
in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memoria=
l to her.”

A Fearless Anointing

The dinner party must’ve been at=
tended by the powerful and elite of society.  People were there to be =
seen and admired.  In fact, Luke identifies Simon as a Pharisee, so yo=
u know that at least the religious leadership was in attendance.  But =
other than Simon, what other names were mentioned in the text?  None.&=
nbsp; Any accomplishments of the attendees mentioned?  No.  Any s=
pecial guests there?  Nope.  Yet, throughout time, we remember th=
e woman with the alabaster box.  She is venerated by Jesus, and immort=
alized in scripture because of her transparent faith.   We were also o=
nce nameless, sinful and deserving of life’s harsh consequences.  But =
when we encounter Jesus, our lives change.  You want to be recognized =
in life?  Offer the best of what you have to Jesus.

 =

Dear Lord we reflect on the woman with the Alabaster box.  We rem=
ember her faith, and the lesson of humility that you teach us today.  =
Remind us that our ways are not like Your ways, and that following Your way=
s distinguishes us from the world.  Teach us to be in the world but no=
t of it, in Jesus name I pray,   AMEN

God bless,
