Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and wa=
tched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich peo=
ple threw in large amounts. 42 But =
a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few =
cents.

Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell yo=
u, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their we=
alth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything-all she had to live on=
.”

We give because God gives=
– and our offerings are a mark of spiritual maturity when seen in this way=
. As our Savior saw it (v. 44), its all about the attitude. The=
widow’s contribution was not based on her need, but on God’s mission (she =
placed them in the temple treasury). Can we give, not based on what w=
e need, nor on what we can afford, but on what is God’s mission and our rol=
e in it?
O God. Please help me to grow=
and mature in your grace. Help me to be more giving, and to take the=
focus off my own needs, and to place my attention on Your mission. I=
n Jesus name, AMEN
