Its that time of year – Ju=
ly 4th is coming – and so are the summer family gatherings! I love fa=
mily cookouts and reunions, because its always good to know “from whence yo=
u came”, and see it illustrated in your kin. My father’s people are f=
rom North Carolina, and my mother’s people are from New Jersey. On my=
father’s side, we can track our lineage all the way back to the time of sl=
avery, and on my mother’s side, we can go as far back as the Reynolds famil=
y in Florida and our Native American roots. The genealogy found in Ma=
tthew 1 is there to tell us about our spiritual heritage. Its there t=
o prove that the covenants made by God to Abraham and David are being fulfi=
lled in Jesus. It is also there to show the decision to redeem humani=
ty was made by God long, long ago. As children of God, we all possess=
the same heritage source – we come from God. As such we are co-heirs with =
Christ of the fruit of our lineage, which is to participate in God’s glory =
(Rom. 8:17). Everyday is a reunion between humanity and the Lord…en=
joy it today!
ll us that we are precious in Your sight. Thank you for caring about =
us enough to redeem us to abundant and everlasting life. Raise our he=
ads today, and allow us to walk in the light of your presence with joy, in =
Jesus name, AMEN.
